Buffet Bellavista

After years of closure, the Buffet Bellavista reopens, the grotto of the rack railway station with the same name, which has led from Capolago to the Vetta since 1890.

This icon of Ticino tourism returns to the Mendrisiotto, to its inhabitants and to all lovers of Monte Generoso a load of emotions, memories and the beauty of a unique panorama.

It is undoubtedly the ideal place for a break after a walk, for lunch with friends, to celebrate an anniversary or to spend a few hours away from the hectic pace of the city. It is possible to reserve the location exclusively for private and evening events.

Inside, 40 seats on two floors, a large fireplace and two stoves create a cosy and convivial atmosphere. Outside, the terrace with long tables and benches provides an immersive break in nature. The menu offers simple and genuine dishes that bring to the table all the flavours of Ticino and the dish of the day, which is declined from time to time according to the seasons. 

Menu Buffet Bellavista

The Grotto Buffet Bellavista can be reached in various ways:

  • By cogwheel train: with the Bellavista stop directly opposite
  • On foot: from the various paths on Monte Generoso or from the Bellavista car park, which is the last point accessible by car.

The Bellavista car park is a municipal pay car park that can be reached from Mendrisio, following the "Monte Generoso" signs. From the car park, continue on foot towards the Bellavista station by climbing the forest road on the left, past the barrier. The route is 1.5 km long and in 15 minutes you will hike through the forest on unpaved terrain.

In case of bad weather the Buffet Bellavista remains closed. For groups reservations (min. 10 pax) the service is guaranteed.
