The Insubrico Astronomy Group of Monte Generoso (GIA-MG) is for fans of the night sky. It brings together amateur astronomers from the Canton of Ticino and the neighboring Italian provinces of Varese, Como and Novara. It is also open to amateur astronomers and enthusiasts of celestial phenomena from other parts of Switzerland and Italy. Although it is possible to observe the night sky with the naked eye, distant objects such as nebulae, galaxies and planets require the use of telescopes. For this reason the group's name, GIA-MG, refers to the astronomical observatory located at the top of Monte Generoso at 1601 m elevation.
