Respect for nature
In keeping with the maximum respect for the environment, at the summit of Monte Generoso there is a purification system that purifies waste waters. It was built by BSK Odermatt+Zimmermann AG of Buochs in 1973. It consists of a basin with a capacity of 52 m3 in which 35 m3 of liquids can be completely treated continuously. It operates on the basis of total oxidation. The perfectly clean water left after processing is dispersed. The residual solids are bagged in a special plant and left to dry, after which they are distributed to the mountain farmers who use them as fertilizing material.
The organic refuse produced by the Vetta, the kitchen leftovers from the restaurants, are distributed to the farmers in the area who use them to feed the pigs.
All other refuse produced at the Vetta is taken down to the plain to be disposed of in the normal way.
Nothing is burned at the summit.
The restaurants and kiosks keep drinks only in containers that can be recycled or, at least, eliminated easily.
