From the terminus station in Capolago
passing through Tiralocchio
Difference of altitude: 1330 m
Duration: 3 hours 30 minutes (difficult)
Leave the terminus station and head towards the large cross monument. Follow the path into the wood and when coming out of the wood, descend along the grassy ridge until it reaches the Tiralocchio path. Arriving in the neighbourhood of the farmstead at the half way point, the path comes out onto the meadow, above the Alp of Melano.
From the alpine farmsteads the path descends into the little Valley of Vignale then goes up again to an altitude of 900 m and follows a relatively flat tract for 250 m. This stretch goes through a difference in altitude of 400 m. Some sections of it are extremely narrow and border a precipice. Arriving at the crossroads for Castellaccio, one is almost at the end of the descent, in the distance one can see the sanctuary of the Madonna of the Castelletto. Cross the stone bridge built over the stream, whose source is not far away. The route continues along the path of the cross, and rises again for some 40 m, until it meets another path and then continue as far as the farmsteads of the Castellaccio, from where it comes down to the road that leads to Capolago.
