From Monte Generoso on a Paraglider
Flying at Generoso also means appreciating its fabulous natural beauty. At certain times of the year, there are the nests of many species of birds that watch over the birth and development of their little ones (buzzards, kites, falcons, etc.).
Please note: also the eagle is present on the Monte Generoso. They can often be seen in flight in the area between the “palloncino” (little ball) and the hermitage.
For free-flyers, we advise that you do not fly too close to the rocky cliffs, because the nests are hidden and protected particularly in those areas. Once the babies become adults, they will be our best guides for finding the thermals, the best areas of “lift” and enviable partners for amazing soars!
Decolli

It is possible to take off near the restaurant, but the official take-off point is next to the pine forest that one reaches, as one comes up the final section on the little train. From the restaurant it is a few minutes walk towards the south-west along a designated path.
Landings
The official landing place is on a football pitch that is equipped with a windsock beside the new sports centre of Riva S. Vitale, where there are no particular obstacles to beware of.
From the landing place to the railway of Monte Generoso it is approximately a five minute walk.
Attention: The wind in the valley, especially in the spring and summer, can reach high speeds, strong enough to impede forward movement thus preventing gliders from reaching the landing point.

Type of flight
The mountain, with its 1,704 m altitude above sea level and orographic conformation, is really generous. In fact, by achieving a sufficient altitude, it is possible to fly towards the north in the direction of Monte Boglia and continue to fly on the Sopraceneri (above Ceneri), or as far as Monte Cornizzolo in Italy, towards the south. If you do not intend to go to far, you can have fun going down towards Dosso Bello (1,036 m above sea level), followed by Monte Caviano and if you can, getting as far as Monte Bisbino (1,325 m above sea level), after which you can get back once again to Vetta. Many Swiss flying schools use Monte Generoso for their courses. In this case, the flight is towards the west, over the lake, landing at Melano between the lake and the railway line. The maximum height allowed is 3,800 m above sea level towards Switzerland and 2,700 m above sea level towards the north on the Italian side.
